Recreating OBDF 110 - Papercraft Objects: Phase I Prototypes

Papercraft Objects: Phase I Prototypes

So I very foolishly, and accidentally, deleted my blog posts for OBDF 110 by changing my G Suite account. From now on I will be downloading my blog posts so I have a record! Anyway, I am re-posting some photos here from the projects from last year and some snippets of what I remember from the challenges of the projects.
For the papercraft prototype I decided to attempt a hot air balloon. It was fairly labour intensive, having to crease all the folds but I got smarter with my layout for the actual product so I could do all my creasing before I cut the parts out.

I ended up with a few challenges on this balloon, the first was the scale, it was hard to glue all the pieces together without being able to get my fingers in to hold everything till the glue stuck. The other challenge was with the string, I would have liked to get something less bulky but didn't think ahead. The other problem with the string was that it sat in the paper joints so it threatened to pull them apart, something to change for the final balloon.

This is the layout for the parts, I should have paid more attention to lining them up perfectly because it would have saved time to do all the folds in a line while the parts were not cut out. Some of these parts are lined up but not all of them.
The tabs on the basket were also too big, or the basket was too small, it was really hard to get my fingers in to glue it and have the tabs stay put.

Stay tuned for the final balloon, I'm biased but its really cool!
