Mesh Mashup: Concept Generation
So I very foolishly, and accidentally, deleted my blog posts for OBDF 110 by changing my G Suite account. From now on I will be downloading my blog posts so I have a record! Anyway, I am reposting some photos here from the projects from last year and some snippets of what I remember from the challenges of the projects.
This project involved working in tinkercad again (which I still struggled with especially getting objects to line up). It was great getting to use the thingiverse to explore and use objects that others had created, unfortunately I no longer have the links for the original objects, only the mashed up images (I appreciate the use of others work and hope its still ok to use the images without proper reference).

Bison Train - This object combined a bison and a train, kind of playing with ideas of horse power and motion. I also tried to include the smoke from a train as steam coming from the bison. It was a struggle to get the bison and the train to match up in a way that wasn't too jarring.

Cracked Bulb - For this mashup I combined Christmas lights with an egg that I created myself. This one is not my favorites, but I was trying to play with ideas of delicacy and life and light.
Daisy-In-Chains - This is the object I decided to use for the next stage of the project. I was playing with ideas of freedom and protest and I was trying to contrast the delicacy of flowers and the hardness of handcuffs.

Delicate Work - For this object I wanted to combine the ideas of manual labour and the the delicacy of work that we traditionally think of as women's work. We tend to dismiss women's creative work as hobbies and I wanted to contrast that with the concrete/hardness of a shovel, while also undermining the shovel itself by including a lace-like cutout in the spade, unfortunately I could not figure out how to get tinkercad to do the cutout so I left it as a surface pattern rather than a cutout pattern.
Explosive Treat - Combining ice cream and underwater mines.
Flying Umbrella - For this one I combined the handle of an umbrella with feathers, rendering the object useless for its purpose. I couldn't get the feathers to look realistic but didn't want to dedicate too much tome to an object that I would not continue to work with at the next stage.
Murder Kite - A noose brought in from thingaverse that I had to lengthen by splitting and adding sections of rope and a tinkercad created kite.
Internal Gears - These objects I had fun with, while it was challenging to get things to line up I had fun replacing the interior of the fruit with gears and playing around with transparency in order to communicate my idea.
Shaded Light - Combining the light giving and protective lighthouse with the opaque lamp shade. Both objects give light and both offer some sense of comfort but in taking a domestic hider of light I wanted to contrast the exterior, large scale, bringer of light.
Spaghetti Spool - the last object for the mesh mashup series is a silly contrast of sewing/yarn and food. In a way you can think of your food and how it is processed, does it come off a reel? Is is a result of manufacturing? On the other hand the imagery of eating yarn/thread is a contrast that makes me at least a little physically uncomfortable when I imagine a mouth-full of yarn!
Hope you enjoyed my mashups!
